Immigration appointments in Málaga: how to get one without paying a reseller
Málaga's office is one of the most overwhelmed in Spain. There are legal, free and reasonably fast routes. We share the ones we use every week.
Getting an immigration appointment in Málaga is the number one bottleneck of the process today. The Avenida de la Aurora 69 office and the Paseo Marítimo branch absorb the whole province, and supply lags demand. Resellers exploit this. Paying for an appointment is illegal and often the slot never materialises.
The official platform: ICP and Mercurio
Every appointment goes through the Public Administrations e-portal. Pick the province (Málaga), the procedure, the office. If there's a slot, you'll see it; otherwise, try again.
Police procedures (TIE fingerprinting, pickup) use the same platform. Files requiring prior decision (arraigos, reunifications) are filed through Mercurio, the electronic register, without in-person appointment.
Procedures that no longer need an in-person slot
- All arraigos: social, socio-labour, family, training, second-chance.
- Family reunification (initial and renewal).
- Residence modifications.
- Initial work/residence authorisations.
- Renewals.
When real slots appear
- Monday 8:30 — main weekly release, 30–45 day window.
- Wednesday 11:00 — minor release for in-week cancellations.
- Friday 8:00 and 13:00 — residual stack before the weekend.
- Local holidays in Málaga: supply drops to zero — don't insist that day.
Mistakes that kill your slot
- Hammering F5 without going back to step 1. The platform requires re-entering passport each time; brute refresh flags you as a bot.
- Using a VPN. Triggers a 24-hour lock from that IP.
- Old data. If your passport expires in under 90 days, ICP rejects.
- Clicking next twice while loading. Session breaks and you start over.
Alternatives if Málaga won't budge
- Other Andalusian provinces — Córdoba and Granada often have looser TIE supply.
- Administrative silence — after 3 months without resolution on your electronic file, some procedures trigger positive silence.
- Professional representation — a licensed gestoría with power of attorney files via a separate channel.
Frequently asked questions
Is paying a reseller for an appointment illegal?
Yes. Reselling a free public-service appointment is void and prosecutable. It also exposes your data and the slot often fails to materialise.
Do I need an in-person appointment to file an arraigo?
No. Since Mercurio was generalised in 2022, arraigos are filed electronically without an appointment. You only need a slot for fingerprinting if the resolution is favourable.
Can I book an appointment in another province?
Yes, immigration appointments are national. Worth it if your province has no slots. Watch out for long trips — confirmations sometimes arrive minutes before opening.
What do I do if I cannot get an appointment for weeks?
Check first if your procedure admits electronic filing through Mercurio (most do). If not, mandate a licensed gestoría to file under their channel.
